Biography

Neil specialises in advising professional organisations, especially law firms, on all issues relating to the strategic planning of technology, the application of technology, and business issues relating to the exploitation and benefits realisation of technology.

Neil, originally a Barrister, and has worked for LEXIS, Allen & Overy and KPMG Consulting, has been involved with legal IT for 23 years and advising law firms in every kind of strategic and tactical IT issue since 1986.

In 1994 he left KPMG to set up his own independent consultancy with a number of associates specialising in law firm technology.  The group has since worked with 16 of the top 20 UK City firms, as well as with clients across the globe.  The Neil Cameron Consulting Group now has a team of four dedicated legal IT professionals with a broad range of experience.

Kevin Connell was until recently Information Director at BP plc, accountable for the Information Technology strategy for the Company Secretary, Group Compliance & Ethics and Legal Functions. Prior to joining BP in 2005, Kevin was IT Director for a large UK based law firm.

Biography

Karl is Chief Technology Officer for Outsourcing UK, defining the strategic architecture for technology, services, organisation models and delivery methods offered to existing and new Outsourcing Clients.

As a strategic advisor to Capgemini's European outsourcing board, Karl is currently focusing on the opportunity presented by service orientation to extend the range and flexibility of utility services. In his delivery capacity, Karl will design and deliver the transformation programmes and IT services architecture for some of Capgemini's biggest outsourcing Clients. He is also helping clients develop their IT strategic roadmaps, with a focus on harnessing innovation.

A Chartered Fellow of British Computer Society, frequently quoted in the press, Karl is recognised as a thought leader in the industry. He has an in-depth knowledge of the IT industry, and prior to joining Capgemini held senior IT leadership positions in major private and public sector organisations.

Joanna Goodman is editor of Legal Technology Journal, which focses on the role of technology within law firm practice management and business development from a strategic and practical perspective.

As well as editing Legal Technology Journal, Joanna writes for leading publications across the business and legal sector. Her work includes regular features, opinion pieces and in-depth reports focusing on business, knowledge and technology topics. She also writes brochures, marketing copy and e-learning materials.

Biography

Peter is the Managing Director of Lights-On Consulting Limited, an IT and management consultancy practice. Lights-On specialises in the legal sector working with both Law firms and IT suppliers but also carries out some work for sectors outside of legal to maintain a broader commercial view. Peter is also a founder member, Director and Secretary of Litig Limited, a not-for-profit legal think tank.

Prior to Lights-On Peter was the IT Director at Eversheds for over 10 years. Peter lead Eversheds’ IT through its merger of seven separate law firms in August 2000, bringing together the seven IT departments with different IT systems, technologies and cultures into one, firm-wide IT department with consolidated technology across the firm.

Before Eversheds, Peter spent 9 years in DuPont primarily in the oil and gas sector iand as IT consultant to various smaller subsidiary, joint venture, start-up or affiliated firms in the chemical, energy and energy conservation sectors.

Biography

Sam Suri is a director and founder of It Matters Consulting, a consultancy established to provide the lawyer’s perspective on projects affecting lawyers and the way in which they work.

Sam has advised some of the world’s largest law firms, European law firms and UK law firms on the change management, information management, and risk and compliance issues relating to the implementation of business driven working practices or technology solutions in law firms.  Sam has also advised legal governing bodies, including the Law Society of England & Wales, and advisory bodies on the regulatory issues faced by lawyers in the use of technology in the management of information.

Prior to establishing It Matters Consulting, Sam was a Corporate lawyer at Allen & Overy LLP, before moving into an internal IT management role focusing on business, IT and risk analysis for the firm, as well as being responsible for managing the change process of major business related projects to ensure lawyer acceptance.  As part of this role, Sam was responsible for bridging the gap between the lawyers at the firm and the IT department.
